The Clarkston Community Band presents “All that Jazz” on Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. at the Clarkston High School Performing Arts Center, 6093 Flemings Lake Road.
The band, under the direction of Shelley Schwarder Roland, will perform with special musical guest Dave Bennett Combo. Bennett is a Billboard Jazz Chart top 25 musician, featured at Carnegie Hall and on NPR’s “Jazz at Riverwalk,” and he’s a fixture at several American music festivals.
Bennett, a jazz clarinet player, names Stevie Ray Vaughan and Chris Isaak among his influences, and is equally conversant with Benny Goodman and Roy Orbison.
Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased at the door or from a Clarkston Community Band member.
The Clarkston Community Band was founded in 1890, making it one of the longest continuously running community bands in the country. It operates solely with volunteers, also utilizing local high school students.
The 501(c)(3), non-for-profit group is financially supported by corporate donations, musician dues and concert donations. Proceeds are used to provide scholarships to graduating high school seniors and purchase new music for future performances.
