Dr. Peter Blank, local ecologist, hosts the Annual Meeting of the North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy, Saturday, Feb. 23, in the social hall of the Church of the Resurrection, 6490 Clarkston Road.
The event will run from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and will include a presentation by Dr. Blank, a recap of the conservation work NOHLC accomplished in 2018, and opportunities to sign up for upcoming NOHLC activities.
At the free event, Blank will discuss the important role native plants play in our local ecology and provide information on how one can create welcoming environments for birds and pollinators on our property. Many species become threatened or endangered with the expansion of urban development or when pesticides and toxic chemicals are introduced into their habitats. Residents can help by making backyards friendly and inviting places to help our wild friends feel at home.
With its many lakes, lush wetlands and standing forests, Northern Oakland County is not only a beautiful place to live but is also a valuable ecosystem that includes the headwaters of the Clinton, Shiawassee, Huron and Flint Rivers. In a period of rapid development northward, NOHLC works to save some of the most beautiful and ecologically important areas of the county.
