15 years ago – 2004
“Clarkston schools earn state blue ribbon award” Clarkston High School and Clarkston Middle School were among 13 schools to earn the Michigan Blue Ribbon Exemplary School award for 2004.
“Clarkston author writes about leadership” After 1,600 interviews with company leaders form every walk of life, Clarkston resident Martin Zimmerman shared his knowledge in a book he wrote about leadership called “In Their Presence.”
“Powerlifters compete in honor of late teammate” The Clarkston High School Powerlifting team put on a strong show in memory of their late teammate, Kelly Firby. They held a special meet which was both a memorial and fundraiser for the team.

25 years ago – 1994
“Officer honored by MADD” Mothers Against Drunk Driving recognized Clarkston’s Corporal Scott L. Dickey’s efforts against those who drive intoxicated. Dickey made 18 alcohol-related stops in 1993.
“Clock needs work” The Main Street clock in downtown Clarkston began to show what time and weather could do as the large wood ring holding the glass face in place was deteriorating.
“Artist brightening walls, homes” David Yarnell shared how his commercial art experience helped him with his technique as he started painting murals of cartoon characters, sports figures, landscapes and holiday scenes. He began painting murals full time after he was laid off from his commercial artist job.

50 years ago – 1969
“Boosters give scoreboard” The Clarkston Athletic Boosters gave a check for $350 to the Clarkston Schools to cover the cost of a portable electric baseball scoreboard.
“Around the town” Mr. and Mrs. Bob Parker were overwhelmed by kindness and consideration shown to them by friends and neighbors at the close of their last day as owners of the Clarkston Cafe. Both expressed their thanks and appreciation for the flowers and gifts they received at a surprise dinner held in their honor.
“Clarkston sinks Kettering” The hex against Waterford Kettering was over for another year as the Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball team defeated the Captains for the second time in the 1968-69 season, 55-52.
