The Clarkston Area Farmers Market is gearing up for its 15th summer filled with fresh food and music.
“I have sold produce at this market for all 15 years and have regulars that I still see from that first year,” said Sylvia Ritchie, market manager. “They come because of the setting, convenience, location and they like the selection of vendors we have as well as the music. It’s pet friendly, and they also bring their children for the experience. I have heard comments they don’t really need to drive to other markets, they find everything they need at ours.”
From 50-55 vendors attend the formerly named Clarkston Farmers Market on different Saturdays throughout the season, which runs from June 8 to Oct. 12, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Clarkston Community Education Center, 6558 Waldon Road. About nine produce vendors will be at the market each week, selling a wide variety of vegetables, fruits, honey, eggs, and other produce.
“My philosophy, if the vendors are happy then the customers will be as well,” Ritchie said. “We have a lot of returning vendors as well as new vendors each year. Some of the new vendors are selling clarified butter and artesian breads. Right now we are finalizing the vendors for this year, so they are still sending in their applications for the market.”
Returning favorites include all of the produce growers, breads, honey, eggs, skin care products, floral arrangements and perennials. Musicians at the market include the Clarkston Community Band on opening day, Chris Thurlow, Larry Arbor, Dennis Farac, Frand Grimaldi, Rob Norum, Rod Yeacker, and Raymond LeBert.
“We will have the Clarkston Family Farm, Robin Danto giving food talks, Yoga Oasis from July to September every Saturday. We are always adding special events throughout the market season,” Ritchie said.
