Clarkston City Council voted 7-0 to replace four Depot Park bridge lights for $1,937.34, plus labor, to be paid from the Park Materials budget, and one parking light for $294.19, plus labor, to be paid from the Parking Expense budget.
Hutchinson Electric will do the work. They were previously approved as the city’s dedicated electrical contractor, bypassing the need for competitive quotations, said City Manager Jonathan Smith.
Hutchinson found the reason for the failing Depot Park bridge lights was poor quality fixtures that are leaking, causing LED bulbs to fail prematurely.
“LED bulbs should last 5-10 years. They have been lasting about six months due to the water intrusion,” Smith said. “One was filled right to the top with water.”
Council member David Marsh made the resolution, contingent on approval by the Historic District Commission.
