Bailey Lake Elementary Principal Glenn Gualtieri recently traveled to Washington, D.C. to represent Clarkston Community Schools and the state of Michigan at the National Association of Elementary School Principals National Distinguished Principals (NDP) program.
Gualtieri, who was named Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association (MEMSPA) 2018 Outstanding Practicing Principal, is being recognized for his instructional leadership, student relations, staff relations, parent relations, professional growth and civic and community participation.
“We couldn’t be prouder of Glenn as he represents our district on the national stage. Glenn’s dedication to the well-being of his students and his uncompromising drive to support learning for all children are just two of the many admirable qualities he possesses,” said Clarkston Community Schools Superintendent Shawn Ryan. “It is no surprise to see him standing beside the nation’s top educators being recognized for his contributions to the profession.”
Colleagues highlighted the following in their nomination related to these areas:
Instructional Leadership – “His leadership has provided a mindset of growth and creativity among staff.”

Professional Growth – “Glenn is an enthusiastic learner and leader, and his presence in meetings and professional development sessions fosters engagement among all who surround him.”
Civic and Community Participation – “Both Glenn and his wife Kerri are vigorous supporters of Blessings in a Backpack, a program that raises funds to provide backpacks full of food for students and families in need.”
The National Association of Elementary School Principals recognizes elementary and middle-level principals from across the nation and abroad as a part of its annual National Distinguished Principals program. The 2019 class of NDPs was honored in Washington, D.C., with an awards banquet on Oct. 11. Principal honorees are selected by NAESP state affiliates and by committees representing private and overseas schools. Criteria for selection of the principals require that the honorees are active principals of schools where programs are designed to meet the academic and social needs of all students and where there are firmly established community ties with parents and local business organizations.
October is National Principals Month, which was established to recognize and honor the contributions of school principals toward the success of the nation’s students, and encourage awareness of their significance.
