Donation for butterflies

The North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy (NOHLC) of Clarkston has joined with the Carls Foundation to save the Poweshiek Skipperling, a butterfly found in only two places in North America.
NOHLC is looking to buy 21.5 acres in Davisburg, which includes wetlands housing flowers the butterfly needs for nectar and reproduction, said NOHLC Executive director Sue Julian.
“This is the first time in our 47-year history that we have had the opportunity to save a species from disappearing forever,” Julian said. “Our deepest gratitude goes to the Carls Foundation for getting us nearer to our goal of raising $275,000.”
“We believe in the value of land preservation and want to see this species survive,” said Elizabeth A. Stieg, Carls Foundation executive director. “The North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy is in a unique position to lead this effort, and we encourage others to contact the conservancy and join the effort.”
