Regrettably, the Clarkston Rotary Club has determined it won’t be able to host its annual “Shoes for Kids” event, usually held in December.
“The ongoing changes in COVID-19 protocols and safe distancing guidelines have made it difficult to properly protect the health and well-being of the over 600 Clarkston students, parents and volunteers participating during the one-day event,” said Joel DeLong, co-chair of the annual event with Cassie Driscoll.
Clarkston Rotary has proudly sponsored “Shoes for Kids” for the past 40 years and is supported by the donations made during its newspaper sales the first weekend in December.
“The generosity of the Clarkston community, both in donations and volunteers, have continued to make the program a success,” said DeLong. “Thank you to the many community service groups, Clarkston Community Schools administration and staff, and individuals for their continued support.”
DeLong and Driscoll noted the Clarkston Rotary spends thousands of dollars to replenish the shoe and boot inventory in advance of the planned newspaper sales.
Those who wish to help, may send donations to Clarkston Rotary “Shoes for Kids,” PO Box 43, Clarkston, 48347.
“It is the club’s intent to again host ‘Shoes for Kids’ in 2021 with the expectation to make the event bigger and better,” DeLong said.
