25 years ago – 1996
“Live from Clarkston, it’s the Monster Mash” Disc jockeys Karen Dalissandro and Steve Courtney from Detroit country station WWWW set up shop on the front lawn of Jack Raymond’s Independence Township home on Halloween for their live broadcast.
“Band third in state” The Clarkston High School Marching Band performed at the state finals at the Pontiac Silverdome and placed third in Flight I competition.
“Plante makes All-State in cross country” Junior Megan Plante ignored the snow and 35-degree temperature at the cross country state championship to finish 24th overall, knocking 50 seconds off her best time to finish first for Clarkston. For the boys, David Sage finished in 24th and among top freshmen in the state.

50 years ago – 1971
“Pine Knob gets face lift in and out” Joseph Locricchio and Gary Francell bought the 70-acre Pine Knob Resort and $300,000 was being spent on renovations of both the lodge and ski slopes including adding four new runs.
“Clarkston edges Milford” One minute and one point can make a difference in a game. It proved to be the difference as Clarkston Varsity Football edged Milford in the last minute of play, 26-25.
“Around the township” Marine Sgt. Cecil Caverly was given a tour of Air Force 1 when it touched down in Hawaii on its way to China carrying Mr. Henry Kissinger, the President’s advisor. Sgt. Caverly was part of detail assigned to Mr. Kissinger.

75 years ago – 1946
“Young and old attend big party Halloween night” The annual community Halloween party held at the school on Thursday night attracted young and old from Clarkston and vicinity. The evening fun started with a torchlight parade with most participants in costume.
“Mary Circle holds luncheon at Virgin home” The Mary Circle met at the home of Mrs. Oscar Virgin on Nelsey Road. Thirty enjoyed the Thanksgiving luncheon by Mrs. Virgin, Mrs. Arthur Tondu, Mrs. Ashton Emery, Mrs. Forrest Jones, and Mrs. Virgin’s daughter, Mrs. Sutherland.
“Clarkston locals” Eldon Rouse and William (Bill) Radoye, who were attending Michigan State College, spent the past weekend at their homes in Clarkston.
