25 years ago – 1997
“Horses saved from icy pond” When the Independence Township Fire Department received a call horses went through ice a pond, they knew they were facing a situation unique in their experience. With adequate equipment and training, they saved the horses.
“CHS band spends New Year’s in England” The Clarkston High School Marching Band participated for the second time in the London Parade Festival in England on New Year’s Day.
“Same play, different result” With Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball up by two points with 7.5 seconds left, Southfield Lathrup’s Greg Grays lifted a 25-foot shot over three Wolves. The shot bounced away to give Clarkston a 44-42 win.
50 years ago – 1972
“School priority list considered” While Clarkston School District had made available many new programs and services to its elementary services, a recent report to the Board of Education recommended at least eight others be considered.
“Business orientated teens in Jr. Achievement” It was Junior Achievement Week in Clarkston and two active groups at the Senior High School were in production – building and selling merchandise.
“Wolves smash Bloomfield, lose to Clarenceville” Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball defeated West Bloomfield, 83-63, after scoring only eight points in the first quarter to the Lakers’ 18 points. The Wolves lost to Clarenceville, 88-78.
75 years ago – 1947
“Blaze destroys cemetery office” A fire which broke out early Tuesday night destroyed an old barn which served as an office of the Ottawa Park Cemetery. The blaze was discovered by Mrs. Mae Hall of 6450 Maybee Road who saw the flames shortly before 8 p.m. from her home across the street.
“Clarkston seniors to visit state capitol” The entire senior class of Clarkston High School took a trip to Lansing to visit the state capitol and the state office building. They also expected to see the legislature in session.
“Clarkston locals” Mrs. William Johnston entertained at a birthday dinner honoring her son, Richard, who turned nine. Following dinner, Richard took his friends to the Drayton Theater to enjoy a show.
