25 years ago – 1997
“A real celebrity reader” Detroit Lions quarterback and Clarkston resident Scott Mitchell stopped by Andersonville Elementary to read to students during March is Reading Month festivities.
“Councilman hot about M-15” It wasn’t on the official agenda but the Clarkston City Council spent around 40 minutes going over the hot topic of road condition. Councilman Dave Savage tossed out a series of requests ranging from lowering Main Street speed limit to banning all trucks going through the city in order to preserve some of the historical buildings along M-15.
“Wolves kick it in high gear with trio of wins” The Clarkston Girls Varsity Soccer team defeated three teams with shutouts against Oxford, 1-0; and Berkley, 6-0. They posted a 6-1 victory over Lapeer West in a non-league game.

50 years ago – 1972
“McDonald’s restaurant plans okayed” A site plan for a 125-seat McDonald’s Restaurant on Dixie Highway between Howe’s Bowling and Clarkston Veterinary Hospital was approved by the Independence Township Planning Commission.
“Schools consider a June switch” Clarkston Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Greene was promoting a program which would see grade changes take place during the final week of school in June rather than in the first week of September.
“Around the township” Tricia Robertson celebrated her 14th birthday by inviting eight friends to her home on Hummingbird for a slumber party. The girls feasted on pizza, pop, chips and black olives.

75 years ago – 1947
“Board of Education acts on debt” All debts on the Clarkston School site were cleared the previous week when $6,000 of bonded indebtedness bearing five percent was retired. At the same time $5,000 in building refunding bonds, interest rate 4.75 percent were also retired.
“The Hilltopper” The speech class of Clarkston High School, sponsored by Mrs. Clark, was the guest of Radio Workshop in Pontiac High School. They were present to see the program broadcasted by members of Radio Workshop.
“Clarkston locals” Ruth Ann Eddy and Edwin Campbell played a two piano duet at a recital in Pontiac. Pupils of 12 teachers associated with the Pontiac Music Guild took part in the recital.
