A local Girl Scout troop has been rewarded for making a difference in the community.
Independence Elementary Girl Scout Troop 76346 recently earned the bronze award, the highest honor a Junior Girl Scout can achieve with a goal of taking action to make a sustainable difference in your community.
The troop of ten girls selected three different projects to work on to earn this award, working with University of Michigan’s Children’s Hospital, Independence Elementary PTO, and K9 Stray Rescue League.
The girls made blankets for the children at University of Michigan’s Children’s Hospital, indoor recess carts for the students at their school, and donated a drive-through donation shed to the animal shelter.
They worked hard in getting donations from friends, family, community members and Ace Hardware of Clarkston to achieve this award.
Their parents and leaders, Kate Weaver, Jade Chwasz, and Elise Bunker said they are so proud of their hard work and dedication to these projects.
The troop includes Olivia Weaver, Genevieve Bunker, Adah Chwasz, McKayla Elliot, Sloane Tillander, Gwendolyn Land, Reagan Thompson, Avery Fischer, Emily Duhaime, and Stella Shires.
