The next meeting of the Clarkston Area Backyard Birders Club is tonight, April 27, at 6:30 p.m., at the Lewis E Wint Nature Center in Independence Oaks County Park, located at 9501 Sashabaw Road.
Complimentary coffee from A.J. O’Neil’s Detroit Bold Coffee will be served, along with baked goods from Mary Kraut.
Benjamin Prowse, parks naturalist at Red Oaks Nature Center, is the guest speaker. Prowse will give great tips for what local residents could see in May in their very own backyards. Many migrating birds will be passing through, including colorful warblers, either to stay as residents or for a brief rest as they head north.
The upcoming May 25 meeting will feature Julie Baker, founder and executive director of the Michigan Songbird Protection Coalition, who has been the driving force in protecting mourning doves and sandhill cranes from the classification as “game species.”
