Addison board places police millage on Aug. ballot

When Addison voters go to the polls Aug. 3., they will be asked to renew their police millage.
Last week, the Addison Township Board voted unamiously to ask voters to renew the current 3.4874-mill tax, which funds the community’s police services contract with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department.
The previous millage expired with December 2009 tax bill. That collection is what’s funding police services during the township’s 2010-11 fiscal year.
If approved at the polls, the millage would raise an estimated $1,041,500 in the first year of levy and will be the only millage levied for a period of four years, from 2010 to 2013.
According to Supervisor Bruce Pearson, the township has previously had approval to levy up to 3.5 mills for police, but has consistently chosen to levy a lesser amount.
‘I think the prudent thing is to keep it at just the renewal,? he said. ‘It’s just not the time or place to put increases on anything.? ? Staff Writer Andrew Moser
