Addison man crashes into fallen tree and dies

A 43-year-old Addison Township resident died Oct. 7 morning after striking a large tree that had just fallen onto Leonard Road.
At appromimately 11:45 a.m., Eric LeFeuvre was driving a 1999 GMC Yukon in the 1400 block of East Leonard Rd., near Secord Lake Rd., when he crashed into a downed tree.
The impact caused part of the tree to strike the windshield, go through the passenger compartment and hit LeFeuvre. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department, LeFeuvre had a cell phone in his hand, but investigators were unsure if he was using it at the time. He was not wearing his seatbelt, and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
There was also no evidence that he attempted to hit the brakes before colliding with the tree.
The tree, which was rotting from the inside out, had recently fallen into the road due to storm-related high winds.
The sheriff’s department is still investigating the accident.
