Alleged burglars busted

Two Oxford men were recently arraigned and jailed in connection with a home invasion in late August and are suspected of other local thefts.
Chadwick Adam Cartner, 19, and Bradley James Van Poppering, 26, allegedly robbed a home on Pocahontas Tr. Aug. 20. In addition to jewelry, the pair allegedly stole a handgun from the residence.
Cartner confessed to the burglary, according to Oakland County Sheriff’s Det. John Robertson.
This alleged theft led to both men being charged with the felonies of second-degree home invasion, larceny of a firearm, two counts of possession of firearm while committing a felony, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Van Poppering and Cartner are convicted felons paroled in June and July respectively. Cartner was previously convicted in 2004 of breaking and entering a building with intent to steal and second-degree home invasion. Both offenses were committed in Oxford Twp.
Van Poppering and Cartner are also suspects in a home invasion on Indian Lake Road that occurred sometime between Aug. 28 and 31.
During this burglary, some jewelry and two shotguns were stolen. The shotguns were later recovered at the home of Van Poppering’s girlfriend on Lincoln Street in the village.
‘A lot of stolen property was recovered (from the Lincoln Street home),? Det. Robertson said. ‘I’ve had owners on three different cases come in here and pick up stolen property.?
Cartner has admitted responsibility for three other home invasions including two in Brandon Township, but no charges have been issued yet, according to Robertson.
Det. Ken Alderman said Van Poppering and Cartner ‘are also the main suspects in a lot of LFAs (Larceny from Automobiles)? and ‘there are others out there that were with them.?
In addition to the home invasion and firearms charges, Cartner is facing six felony counts of credit card fraud.
He allegedly made four purchases in Oxford with a credit card stolen during a home invasion in Brandon Township and two more purchases with a card stolen from an automobile in Oxford.
Both Cartner and Van Poppering are currently lodged in the county jail.
