Animal Control among visitors for Webber’s Career Day

Physical therapists, doctors, lawyers, engineers and media personalities were among the jobs explored by Webber Elementary students, at the school’s annual Career Day on May 16.
Many students even came dressed up in attire for whatever career they are hoping to pursue.
Oakland County Commissioner Eric Wilson was on hand for the fourth straight year, bringing along Ruth Martin from Oakland County Animal Control to help show the students the wide range of governmental jobs available.
Wilson and Martin fielded questions from Webber’s 82 third-graders about their respective jobs, and Martin brought dog Livia and two unnamed kittens up for adoption to help demonstrate her work with Animal Control.
She said, naturally, adoptions tend to increase after visits to the schools.
‘I’m sure the parents really love that,? she said of the students coming home wanting to adopt a new pet.
Wilson said he made his first visit to Webber after receiving a ton of letters.
‘There were too many to respond to, so I thought ‘why not just go in and talk with them,?? he said.
Wilson, along with the other professionals present throughout the afternoon, appreciated the many thoughtful questions that the students asked.
‘They ask better questions than the reporters do,? he joked.
