Audit completed

A forensic audit, completed by the Whall Group at the request of the Orion Township Board of Trustees, is finished and available for the public to see.
‘The report, now that it’s in, has a significant amount of information,? Trustee Matt Gibb said.
The $26,000 audit began in October.
The board voted to proceed with an audit, and use the Auburn Hills-based Whall Group, after some members expressed concern over investments made by the township.
The Review first reported the story a year ago.
‘I would encourage, now that it’s a public document, that anyone interested read through from the first page to the last,? Gibb said.
Copies of the lengthy report are available by contacting the Clerk’s office.
The board’s Forensic Audit Committee asked the board for direction on how to proceed.
‘At this point, we don’t have a formal report, other than the report itself,? Gibb noted.
Treasurer Alice Young said she went through the report and made some notes, which she handed to all of the board members.
‘It’s not my intention to drag this through the mud,? Young said. ‘I think the faster we come to a conclusion, the better off the township is.?
The board voted to receive and file the report, along with the comments from Young.
They also approved a motion for the Whall Group to come and give a brief summary of the report, a feature that was included in the original contract.
The visit from the Whall Group will occur on a later board agenda.
In the meantime, the board appointed a committee of Clerk Jill Bastian, Gibb and Trustee John Steimel to report back in late April on policy items.
Gibb noted that the audit included a look at several matters of policy in the township and made some recommendations.
He said it was his hope that the audit could help the board in future matters involving the interaction of numerous township departments and offices.
