Bizarre twist to construction accident ends in conviction of Clarkston man

A Clarkston man was convicted on two felony charges for severely injuring a road construction worker last April in Orion Township.
When the story first appeared in The Review last year, Bryan Bette (aka Bryan Brette) was charged with driving the vehicle. After a police investigation, Bette’s boss at Munro Custom Building in Berkley was said to be the driver.
On Friday, Kevin Ross Munro, 50, was found guilty on two of the three charges he faced in Circuit Judge Steven N. Andrews? courtroom. Munro will be sentenced on Aug. 7.
He was convicted of leaving the scene of a serious accident and felonious assault with a dump truck. A lesser option of felonious driving was thrown out by the jurors.
A 61-year-old Bad Axe man is still recovering from the April 26 incident on Joslyn Road, near Judah Road. Joseph Farrar was directing traffic when Munro’s vehicle became impatient, passed several vehicles and nudged him to the ground.
Farrar’s feet were run over by the dump truck, and he also sustained a broken neck bone.
Charges against Bette were dismissed earlier this year when a fellow employee recanted his alibi for Munro and told investigators that Munro was the driver.
The witness also said that Munro shaved his moustache shortly after the incident.
Munro’s attorney, Michael Rex, said it was Bette, and not his client, that was picked out of a lineup by Farrar and other eye witnesses.
The jury had heard enough, however, and Munro faces up to five years in prison.
