Crafters, scrappers, and shoppers are needed to help spark the interests of some area students.
From 9 a.m.-5 p.m., May 3, the Brandon Middle School Parent Teacher Organization will host its first annual Spring Scrapbook Crop. The fundraiser will benefit the seventh grade Hands-on Science Day.
From a liquid nitrogen investigation to exploring dry ice to things that fling to slime chemistry, the 15 hands-on stations designed to meet the MEAP benchmarks will be available to students on June 6. Students will have key science concepts from their curriculum reinforced in each station.
‘Here’s an opportunity for local businesses, parents, teachers and administration to work toward a common goal for the good of the children,? said Michelle Ervin, of the BMS PTO. ‘The hands-on science day can be a key aspect in sparking the education of the Brandon students,? she said. ‘All stakeholders recognize we need to come together as a community to raise the Brandon Schools to the beacon of educational excellence they can be.?
Several BMS seventh grade students have expressed interests in the Hands-on Science Day.
‘I love science, it’s so fun. I like inertia and constellations. I really want to dive into it more. I really hope we can do this’it will really make me think about what I want to do in the future. I can’t wait for the Hands on Science Day,? said Benjamin, BMS seventh grade.
‘I am very excited to see the light and heat (stations) and the hair standing thing. I love Cranbrook, I was there this past summer. The experience of the hands-on would be very fun and exciting to see,’said Allison, BMS seventh grade.
‘This would be a very nice opportunity to expand my thinking, learning and thoughts about science,? said Ethan, BMS seventh grade.
Cranbrook Institute of Science educators share science while meeting Michigan Grade Level Curriculum Expectations. Students learn what Michigan’s rocks, minerals and fossils tell about its geological history, tour the many forms of energy, identify insects using live specimens in the curriculum.
‘The Spring Scrapbook is an opportunity to support BMS students and enjoy a great day of fun,? Ervin added.
