Board selects new officers

The Lake Orion Board of Education held their organizational meeting for the 2007-2008 school year last week.
Among the items discussed, the board nominated and elected their new board officers for the school year.
Trustee Jim Weidman was nominated as the new board president, a position that became vacant after former board president Leeann Bartley did not run for reelection after her term was up on June 30.
This is Weidman’s seventh year on the board, and his term will expire in 2009. He has four daughters, three of which are Lake Orion graduates and one who is in fourth grade.
He believes that it is important to maintain continuity of the leadership that has been provided, while he is looking forward to the changes that will ‘open thinking processes and bring new ideas to the table.?
Former board treasurer Mary Jo Burchart will serve as the new vice president of the board.
She has been on the board for the last seven years, functioning as the treasurer for the last five years. Her term is up in 2008. She has a son that is a junior in high school and a daughter in eighth grade.
With Burchart moving on to vice president, board trustee Janet Wolverton will be the new treasurer.
Wolverton is in her sixth year on the board, with a term expiring in 2010, and this will be the first officer position that she has held. She has two children at the high school, a senior and a sophomore.
‘We have so much faith and trust in our financial department, so I will basically just oversee them,? Wolverton said of her new board position.
Secretary Tina Peterson will continue in her role for another year.
She has been on the board for nine years, having filled a vacant seat her first year before being elected. Her term will expire in 2008, and she has served as secretary during her entire tenure on the board. She has two daughters, one of which just graduated from Lake Orion High School and one that will be a sophomore.
