Bowlers roll a tie, loss

The Wildcats varsity boys and girls bowling teams squared off Jan. 5 against Clarkston, a main rival for a league title.
The girls walked away with a 15-15 tie, while the boys lost 22-8.
All the momentum Oxford’s girls gained by winning both baker games quickly disappeared as the Wolves managed to win five out of the 10 head-to-head matches.
Seniors Heather Lafnear, Colleen Walters and Alex Logan each captured their first head-to-head match, but during the second go around it was only Logan and junior Caitlyn Wroblewski coming away with points for Oxford.
The Wildcats move to 2-0-1 in the Oakland Activities Association Red division.
Meanwhile, the boys split their two baker games, winning game one 193-169 before losing game two 214-158.
The Wildcats picked up two wins by sophomore Kyle Woody and junior Shawn Donaldson in the first set of head-to-head matches. Despite losing three matches, Oxford lost the pin total by two pins.
In the second set of head-to-head play, only Donaldson and sophomore Brandon Hurlburt won matches.
‘These were exciting matches and we had an opportunity to win both,? varsity head coach JR Lafnear said. ‘Clarkston is one of the strongest teams we will see all year, and we battled them to the end. We are getting better and more confident as the season goes on.?
With the loss, the boys fall to 1-2 in the OAA Red.
The Wildcats then traveled over to Romeo to partake in a tournament on Saturday, Jan. 7. The girls finished fourth, while the boys managed to make the top eight according to Lafnear.
