Bowling team benefits from JV conference champs

Equipped with five bowlers from last year’s JV conference championship team the Oxford Varsity boys bowling team is sure to make strides in the Northern Lakes Conference this season.
‘We’ve got a lot of depth and a lot of potential,? Coach J.R. Lafnear said. ‘We are more solid top to bottom going into this season than we were last year.?
The boys varsity team has two returning varsity players, senior captain Tyler Heichel and junior James Roberts.
Junior Steven Lafnear, senior Ben Griggs and junior Brandon Burgess are entering their third year of bowling, while sophomore Michael Magyar and senior Trent Heichel are both ‘solid bowlers.?
‘We should have good senior leadership from the Heichel brothers,? Lafnear said.
Lafnear said the Oxford Varsity girls bowling team is something to get excited about this season.
Last year’s team leaders, junior captain Ashlee High and sophomore Sarah Decker return to the team. Last year’s most improved bowler, junior Elizabeth LaFramboise has worked hard on her game all summer.
Lafnear said the addition of sophomore Kelly Cartner, senior Rose Styles and junior Dayna Rein will bring out ‘the best girls team we’ve ever had at Oxford.?
‘The team is very young with only one senior, but has loads of game,? he said.
The teams first match up is against Clarkston at Cherry Hill North on Sunday, Dec. 2.
