After years of renovations at Brady Lodge, located inside Bay Court Park at 6970 Andersonville Road, the historic building is ready to be revealed to the public.
The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Independence Township Parks, Recreation and Seniors department is holding a celebration for the reopening, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3:45 p.m.
Brady Lodge was built by George Nexsen Brady in 1921. He founded Camp Brady, a Boy Scouts of America camp which ran through the 1940s.
For the next 30 years, the lodge housed a recreational camp for mothers and children run by the District of Nursing Society. In 1972, it was leased to a group serving underprivileged youth and children with disabilities. The township purchased the property in 1988.
Renovations include a new roof, bell tower, windows and glass cargo bays, interior and exterior paint and a new electrical system.
