Brandon’s varsity volleyball team headed near the state capital to start their 2005-06 season.
The Blackhawks competed in the Okemos Invitational Saturday, Dec. 10, finishing seventh out of 12 teams while compiling a 3-3 record on the day.
Brandon defeated Bloomfield Hills Andover 25-23, 25-19; Ypsilanti 25-19, 25-17; and Pewamo-Westphalia 25-23, 25-20.
Lynsey Crain went 17-for-17 passing for the Blackhawks with 17 digs, while Savannah Stedman added 34 kills, 22 blocks and 10 digs. Brittany Kelley contributed 12 aces and five kills, and Sandra Oliver added 30 digs and seven aces.
The freshman player of the week for the Blackhawks was Sarah Pruette, while the junior varsity player of the week was Sherri Lawrence.
