Brandon netters wrap up regular season fourth in Flint Metro

Although Brandon’s varsity volleyball team lost their final two Flint Metro League games of the regular season, they still finished better in league play than they have in several years.
At Linden, the Blackhawks lost to Lapeer East 19-25, 19-25, 19-25, and Lapeer West 25-21, 18-25, 21-25, 18-25. The Blackhawks went 7-7 in league play to finish fourth overall.
‘We did not come out with the same intensity as Lapeer East,? Brandon coach Brian Williams said. ‘They are the defending champions, and they played like it. In the second game versus Lapeer West we played better. We had a great first game, but Lapeer West wanted it more in the end. They were playing for a league title and they were one step ahead of us.?
Alyssa Tierney went 19-of-21 passing and 16-of-17 serving with 24 digs, while Sherri Lawrence went 12-of-13 hitting with two blocks and Jessica Liebner went 26-of-30 hitting with six kills.
In a Feb. 23 match at Oxford, the Blackhawks won 25-9, 15-25, 25-12, 25-20. Sandra Oliver went 26-of-27 serving with six aces, 17 digs and nine kills. Savannah Stedman had 17 kills and 7 blocks, while Liebner went 8-of-10 hitting with two blocks.
‘Our girls turned in a solid performance against Oxford,? Williams said. ‘We game out swinging and brought a lot of intensity. Sandra turned in an excellent performance ? her leadership on the floor has been inspirational to our team all year. Offensively, we were able to do a lot of things with Savannah and Jessica. This was another big win for the program as we are getting better and better.?
The Blackhawks are slated to compete in districts Saturday, Mar. 4 against the winner of the Davison-North Branch game Thursday, Mar. 2.
