Independence Elementary students raised money for the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) funded events at their annual fun run held Sep. 29.
The school decided to switch it up this year and put on a color run for the kids. Parent volunteers threw blue, purple, green, orange and yellow dust at students as they ran laps.
“It was awesome. We tried something different this year,” Principal Nate Fuller said. “The parents got involved, and I think the kids loved it, lot of energy. It was fun.”
Fuller joined the fifth graders on the track for their last fun run lap, giving students high fives as they crossed the finish line.
Parent volunteer Allyson Hemsworth served as the event’s chairperson. She said it’s the PTO’s main fundraiser for the year and it sponsors field trips, mini grants, and PTO sponsored activities, such as the winter carnival.
“This year we decided to change it up a little bit and do a color run. The kids are having so much fun getting dirty,” Hemsworth said. “This is just a great event, we’re super proud of our school.”
