Burns finalist for city mgr. job

Christine Burns is one of two finalists for the city manager job in Cedar Springs located in Kent County.
Burns, who’s served as the clerk, treasurer and assistant manager for Oxford Village since August 2005, interviewed for the Cedar Springs? job Saturday along with five other candidates.
‘They are doing background checks on both of us and will be in contact in about a week,? Burns told this reporter on Monday.
Council is expected to decide what to do about her Feb. 13 letter of resignation at its March 14 meeting.
Either council will accept the letter or Burns will rescind it and stay.
‘I honestly don’t know what I’m going to tell them,? she said.
Burns has yet to give an official date for her last day of work. She preferred to leave her resignation open-ended while she finishes up some projects.
Village officials have been making considerable efforts to retain Burns since she unexpectedly announced her resignation last month. Even township officials and members of the public have urged the village to keep her aboard.
Council held a special three-hour meeting on March 6 to address issues relating to Burns? job descriptions and the chain of command in the village office.
A lack of clarity on who Burns and her deputies report to ? council or Manager Joe Young ? seemed to be the main problem. Council made it clear that Burns reports to it, not Young.
