Cats tied for 1st in golf

After two Oakland Activities Association events, the Wildcats find themselves tied for first place.
The varsity boys golf team captured their first ever Oakland Activities Association league victory when they defeated Avondale 158-171 on Tuesday, April 26.
Oxford’s leading scorers for the match were Nolan Chapman and Justen Crouse with a 38.
On Saturday, April 30, Avondale got a measure of revenge against the Wildcats as they won the first OAA league meet by two strokes over Oxford.
Doug Piesko won the event, shooting a 75.
‘The league has three or four teams that are pretty strong,? varsity head coach Terry Kelley said. ‘We beat Avondale by 13 at their course and then went to a neutral course for the first league tournament and they beat us by two.?
With the second place finish, Oxford is currently tied with Avondale for first place in the league.
‘It will be close all the way through. We have to visit some of the good teams away, so it should be pretty challenging,? Kelley added. ‘I think the kids are excited and they look forward to every match.?
Oxford stepped out of league play on Wednesday, April 27 and Thursday, April 28 to battle former Flint Metro League rivals Brandon and Lapeer West, respectively.
The results were the same as the Wildcats came away with a 151-155 victory over the Blackhawks and a 149-170 win over Lapeer West.
Nick Hocker led the Wildcats to victory over the Blackhawks with a 35. Josh Hosking followed with a 36 and Piesko shot a 39 against Brandon. Piesko followed up his 39 with a 35 to lead the Wildcats against Lapeer West. Hocker shot a 36 in the match and Doug Schultz shot a 38.
The Wildcats traveled to Bloomfield Hills Lahser on Tuesday, May 3 before returning home and taking on West Bloomfield on Wednesday, May 4.
