Chalk artist offers holiday-themed collage

If you were in downtown last week for lunch, shopping or even enjoying yourself at the Lions Club Jubilee, you may have seen the splash of color on the sidewalk in front of the Cutting Edge salon. It was a display of artwork and patriotism at its finest.
Designed by 16-year-old Marna Binkowski, the sidewalk featured an Independence Day-inspired collage, rendered out of chalk.
According to Binkowski, she would work on the artwork for an hour at a time, continually adding on to it, until it included a ‘Happy Fourth, Lake Orion? message, fireworks, the lake, a fair and, of course, the American flag.
‘It was never ending,? she said. ‘It would just continue to grow as I would sit there and add on.?
This is not the first time that Binkowski has done artwork for the salon, where her mom, Roxanne, works.
‘I do it here all the time,? Binkowski said, noting that her foray into chalk artwork actually started on family camping trips, where she would fill the whole sidewalk in front of their site with drawings.
Binkowski, who will be a senior at Lake Orion High School in the fall, is an AP Art student. She hopes to become a tattoo artist when she is older.
