When someone says they are from Clarkston, the description can be quite deceiving since ‘Clarkston? seems to incorporate more and more these days.
The Clarkston Area Chamber changed its geographic definition of the Clarkston area to include all Springfield Township rather than portions.
‘The old definition did not include Davisburg or define Dixie Highway accurately. There used to not be much development north of I-75, but now there is,? said Executive Director Penny Shanks.
‘We want to define the Clarkston area, if you live in it, by where you would live and work. We wanted to be looking at more than just Springfield Township businesses, we wanted to include the people that live there.?
Springfield Township Clerk Nancy Strole welcomed the idea.
‘I think it’s a positive because it reflects the activity that’s going on in Springfield Township,? said Strole.
According to the chamber’s Web site, the geographic definition now includes the City of the Village of Clarkston, Independence Township, Springfield Township, portions of Waterford Township and the Dixie Highway business corridor Walton to East Holly roads.
