Cheer squad scores well at Novi competition

Final placements were not the priority at the Novi Fire Up competition the varsity cheer squad participated in on Saturday, Dec. 4.
In a warm-up for the season, the cheer squad group preformed their routines for the first two rounds and was among eight teams that chose not to participate in the third and final round.
Each team did receive a score for each round, but since all teams did not compete in every round, final placements were not awarded.
Oxford had the third highest score of the 13 teams in round one, a 210.8. They trailed only Southgate (225) and John Glenn (217.2).
Oxford again found itself having the third highest score in round two, a 210.7880, trailing behind Southgate (239.3736) and John Glenn (215.1064).
Varsity Co-coach Shari Russell was pleased with how well the girls preformed, especially after receiving positive feedback from the judges after each round.
‘We had the highest score in round two since I’ve been coaching at Oxford and we also had one of our highest round one scores ever,? she said. ‘Overall, it was a great start to our season.?
On deck for the Wildcats will be Saturday, Dec. 11 at Rochester Stoney Creek High School.
Russell knows that the competition will be strong at the event and will focus her team on their timing and fine-tuning their routines.
