Who says you can only read scary books around Halloween?
Not Michigan author Jonathan Rand, who’s known for his popular American Chillers and Michigan Chillers series.
He visited the students at Lakeville Elementary last Wednesday to share how he started his career writing radio commercials before branching into his scary paperback novels.
Each of Rand’s Michigan Chillers books center around a location in the state and the horrifying things that can happen, like in ‘Mayhem on Mackinac Island? or ‘Dinosaur’s Destroy Detroit.?
While at Lakeville, Rand got the crowd giggling while teaching the students how to create their own ‘spooky laugh.? But most importantly, he taught them what reading is all about.
‘Reading is not something you do. Reading is an actual place you go,? he said. ‘Books don’t have covers, they have doors.?
