CORUNNA — The Clarkston Equestrian Team competed in three district meets at the Shiawassee County Fairgrounds, Sept. 7, 8 and 14.
With a combined total of 288 points, just nine behind first place Corunna, the Clarkston Varsity Equestrian Team is the District 11, D Division Reserve Grand Champion 2024.
The one-rider team competed in Showmanship, Western, Trail, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, Reining and Gymkhana events earning points based on their placings.
The Clarkston Equestrian Team consists of ninth grader Avery Evans, her horse Penny and coaches Abigail Davis and Amanda Mollette.
“Avery and Penny competed in over 40 classes in two weekends earning her a ticket to regionals, which is not easy,” said Davis. “Only the top two teams in each division make it to the next level , and Avery worked hard to do so.”
The Wolves are a Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association Division D team, competing against teams from Durand, Genesee and Corunna in District 11.
The team’s next adventure was at the Shiawassee Fairgrounds, Sept. 27-29.
