Clarkston Varsity Boys Basketball lost their game to Ferndale on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 56-52.
“It was a really close game,” said Tim Wasilk, head coach. “Really competitive. Ferndale is an extremely talented team, really good guard play. They are a good shooting team. They had eight three-pointers on us.
“We did a pretty good job limiting their top scorers defensively.”
He added seniors Zach Austin and Keegan Wasilk did a good job guarding their top two players.
“It was a good night for us,” said Wasilk. “We got down 17-5 early. Then played pretty good the rest of the game as far as containing them and knocking down some big shots.”
Keegan Wasilk led with 27 points with four field goals and went 5-for-5 on the free throw line. He had nine rebounds and three assists.
Austin had 14 points with three field goals. He had three rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Senior Nathan Steinman had nine points with one field goals. He had five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
JV won their game over Ferndale with a 69-24 score. The Clarkston Boys Freshman team also won their game, 43-22.
Friday’s game against North Farmington was postponed until Tuesday, March 1.
The Wolves (8-4, 3-3 OAA Red) opened the week against Birmingham Groves.
“They have some good players,” said Wasilk. “They like to go inside quite a bit. They have some good bigs.”
Clarkston heads to Carman Ainsworth in Flint on Friday.
“Seems like, besides the last couple years with all the COVID stuff, Carman Ainsworth is a pretty good rivalry,” said Wasilk. “Two non-league games this week. It will be good to compete against some good teams at home and on the road. Looking forward to a good week and just getting better.
“We have four weeks until playoffs start and just trying to get better, get healthy as the season progresses.”
The Wolves host Oak Park on Tuesday, Feb. 15. JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
