The Clarkston Girls Field Hockey team is excited to mark the half way point of their season with success.
“We are having our best start at 4-2, and even in those losses the team has been very competitive,” shared Cary Exline, head coach.
“We are a very heavily weighted senior team. It’s a great testament to our team that works so well together. We can take athletes who in July had never played field hockey, and in a very short period create a competitive team. I’m very proud of the way our veteran players have been showing our emerging players the ropes, which is important to our team as all these players have been in every game.”
He added the Wolves have three players who have been with the program for four years – senior captains Claire Dean and Savanah Kleinow and goalie Myah Sadowski.
Exline shared in Fall 2025, field hockey will be an official sport under the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
“It won’t really change much as Mr. (Jeff) Kosin and the Clarkston Athletic Department has been helpful and supportive since day one,” Exline said. “But it will be nice to be brought in under the MHSAA umbrella.”
The team is freshmen Claire Curry, Charlotte Koral; sophomore Sophia Bordes, Audrey Johnson, Paige Krol, Ellyson Ryan, Julia Verbeke; juniors Jenna Brown, Claire Champagne; seniors Dean, Kleinow, Sadowski, Shea Breeden, Ava Johnson, Kennedy Johnston, Jessica Martin, Addison Neaumann and Megan Rhue.
The Wolves opened the week against Regina. They host Grosse Pointe North on Thursday; and Edsel Ford on Tuesday, October 8. Both games are scheduled for Clarkston High School Stadium.
“I encourage everyone to come out, see us and spark interest in the next generation of Wolves Field Hockey,” Exline said. -W.R.P.
