Corunna — The Clarkston Junior Equestrian Team competed in two district meets at Shiawassee County Fairgrounds, June 18 and 19.
With a combined total of 152 points, the team finished in third place behind Ovid-Elsie, 182 points, and Durand, 181 points.
The Clarkston Junior Equestrian Team includes Sashabaw Middle School seventh graders London Davis and Lucy Vassallo with head coach Abigail Davis and assistant coach Mandy Mollette.
“The team did wonderful,” said Abigail. “Both girls competed in classes they have never competed in before and they even placed first in some of those classes. It was a fun new experience for us all and can’t wait for what the future years bring for them.”
The junior team is for equestrians in fifth grade thru eighth grade. They are a Michigan Interscholastic Horsemanship Association Division D team, competing against equestrians from Ovid-Elsie, Perry, Durand and Northville in District 11. The equestrians compete in Western, Hunt Seat, Saddle Seat, and Gymkhana events earning points based on their placings. The junior team season is spring, May through June. The senior team season is fall, August through October.
