With the construction season here, Clarkston Road east of M-15 is on the agenda.
According to Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) Senior Communications Manager Craig Bryson, the project is part of the RCOC’s Preservation Overlay program, which involves placing two inches of new asphalt on roads that are in moderate condition, which then serves to extend the life of the road by another 5-10 years for a “very modest investment.”
“We do not have a hard and fast schedule for this work – we get a much better price by giving the contractor the ability to do these quick and easy projects whenever it works for their schedules,” Bryson said. “This project will likely only involve two or three days of work, maybe even only one day, depending on how the contractor chooses to handle it, performed over the course of a two-week period.
The road will remain open during the project, with temporary lane closures and traffic directed by flaggers during the lane closures,
Clarkston City Manager Jonathan Smith said the paving project is the city’s “highest priority” with the summer months now here.
“With the repaving of Main Street now complete, we’ve received several calls and emails asking why the paving crews didn’t just ‘keep going’ down Clarkston Road,” Smith said. “Unfortunately, that is not possible because the two roads are under separate jurisdictions and budgets (MDOT vs. the RCOC).”
Smith also noted the RCOC told him the repaving will be completed in mid to late August.
