If you are a pet lover, then one of Lake Orion’s newest businesses may just become a favorite place for you.
Described by owner Brenda Rogers as a ‘canine and feline foo foo store,? Clo-Bear offers a wide-array of pet products.
According to Rogers, she sells a lot of locally-made items, such as treats (licensed by the Department of Agriculture), cat condos, jewelry and more.
‘I try to carry stuff that is unique and different,? said Rogers, ‘items that you can’t get at other stores.?
Rogers added that she is ‘trying to keep things in the community.?
The store offers critter dishes that are created by a carpenter in Oxford, as well as custom-made pet beds.
‘Anybody can bring something in that they think they can sell on consignment that is related to dogs, cats and critters,? Rogers said.
According to Rogers, a self-proclaimed pet lover, the idea for Clo-Bear stemmed from her nephews. They made her dogs a treat and brought it over, prompting Rogers to follow in their footsteps and start creating her own doggie treats. Everything blossomed from there.
‘I learn from my dogs,? she added, noting that she thinks about what types of merchandise her dogs would like, and she as pet owner would like, and tries to carry items accordingly.
Her dogs are her best inspiration, and the store is even named after one of them.
‘I have a black Pom named Cloie and she looked like a little bear,? Rogers said, hence the name Clo-Bear.
Not only is Rogers excited to be offering a wide array of clothing, designer all-airline approved pet carriers, cat condos, pet beds and much more, she is also planning on offering doggie weddings starting in the spring and a Blessing of the Pets coming up for Christmas.
Rogers also uses her love for animals and her new business to help K-9 Stray Rescue League, a state and federally licensed non-profit group formed in 1990 primarily to save dogs on the euthanasia list at local animal shelters.
Inside Clo-Bear, Rogers has a cage in which people can donate blankets and when it fills up, she takes them to the organization. She also donates treats and bandanas, and offers a 10 percent discount to newly-adopted pets and their owners.
Clo-Bear is located at 1422 S. Lapeer Rd. (in the Belle Tire complex). They are open Monday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be reached at (248)431-1314.
