With funding tougher to come by for most government entities, there is little change in Clarkston’s 2006 Community Development Block Grant Application.
The Clarkston City Council approved the CDBG application at their Nov. 28 meeting and the 2006 grant is expected to be $8,000, which is not a change from last year.
‘It’s been $8,000 for as long as I can remember. This is tentative. They say budget for $8,000 and then hope that’s what you get. Usually, it works out that way,? said City Manger Art Pappas.
The council unanimously approved the maximum 45 percent of the $8,000 to go towards public services, while the remaining 55 percent went to public facilities and improvements, and administrative and planning.
According to the 2006 CDBG application and Pappas, tentative allocations are as follows:
? $2,800 to the Senior Center for window treatments (public facilities and improvements)
? $2,500 to Clarkston Area Youth Assistance for youth summer camp (public services)
? $1,600 to general CDBG program administration (adminsitrative and planning)
? $1,100 to Meals on Wheels through the Senior Center (public services).
Pappas said there was little different about the 2006 grants.
‘Last year we could give 50 percent to public service, this year it’s 45. They also wanted us to start with a $2,500 minimum allocation, but we’re so small, we can go a little lower,? said Pappas.
In other news, the Dec. 12 Clarkston City Council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Independence Township Fire Station No. 1 at 6500 Citation Drive.
The Dec. 26 meeting is canceled due to the Christmas holiday.
