Attention Oxford residents.
It’s that time of year once again to head to downtown Oxford for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon and evening on Aug. 7 for Celebrate Oxford.
The Oxford Downtown Development Authority (DDA) is putting on the event and will feature plenty of good food, live entertainment, games and activities for all ages.
‘The village of Oxford is excited to bring families downtown and showcase the best Oxford has to offer this summer,? said Madonna Van Fossen, the Executive Director of the DDA.
The event kicks off with the Oxford Lions Club putting on a pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at Immanuel Congregational Church, located at the corner of Hovey and Dennison.
After breakfast, cruise on over to the Rotary Club Classic Car Show, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will be held in the southwest parking lot behind 24th Street Sports Tavern. Registration begins at 9 a.m. for the event, which kicks off at 10 a.m. Contact Bill Huntoon at (248) 332-1118 for more information.
Make sure to stop by the Taste of Oxford, which runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Located directly next to Centennial Park, the Taste of Oxford will feature mouthwatering menu items from ‘Wiches, Familiar Taste, Italian Garden, Victoria’s Delights, Jet’s Pizza, Casa Real and many more.
While eating some scrumptious food, enjoy the music being played from the bands hand-picked to perform in Centennial Park during Celebrate Oxford. The schedule is as follows:
11 a.m. ? Noon: Stardusters
12:30 p.m. ? 1:30 p.m.: Randy Brock Group
2 p.m. ? 3 p.m.: No One Else Band
3:30 p.m. ? 4:30 p.m.: The Groove Council
Beginning at 5:30 p.m. and running until 9 p.m., the second annual Battle of the Bands competition will take place. Along with the three judges, the audience will have a say in the winner. Whoever wins the competition will be booked to play in the last Oxford Concert in the Park on Thursday, August 26.
Children will also enjoy the variety of activities during Celebrate Oxford.
Parents can bring their children over to Kids Town (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), located just east of M-24 on Burdick St. Kids can enjoy carnival games, inflatables, a bungee trampoline activity and a rock wall. Wristbands will be available to purchase for $15 a piece or three for $40, which will allow children to have an all-access pass to all of the activities within Kid’s Town.
