Cut-A-Thon helps CLF of Michigan

Glitz Salon on Baldwin Road will host their sixth annual Cut-A-Thon to benefit the Children’s Leukemia Foundation (CLF) of Michigan this Sunday.
Haircuts will be available for a $15 donation. Other events scheduled throughout the day in the Baldwin Commons Center include raffles, a silent auction, inflatable games, music/dancing and the famous princesses for great photo opportunities.
‘We’re going to have 25-30 haircut chairs going all day long,? said owner Cherie Barnett. ‘Plus we’ll have another 20 chairs for the princess up-dos.?
This year’s Cut-A-Thon will also feature the first annual Run for a Remedy, a 5K walk/run, which begins at 8 a.m. (registration starts at 7 a.m.)
The race will begin and end at Glitz and entry forms are available at all Glitz Salons locations or at the event.
‘Rory, the mascot from the Lions will be here to cheer the runners on,? Barnett noted.
A visit from Magic 105.1, a Harley bike show and Spiderman are among some of the other highlights throughout the day (details are available on the event’s MySpace page, read on).
The Cut-A-Thon festivities run until 5 p.m. and the goal of the roughly 100-member Glitz staff is to raise a record $50,000 in donations.
‘The entire Glitz team is amazing in their commitment to raising money for CLF and in their enthusiasm and ability to build an incredible community event,? said Betsy Bonnell, Community Development Manager at CLF.
Bonnell said Glitz has raised nearly $100,000 over the years.
Barnett is estimating that a few thousand people will be in attendance, and about 600 haircuts will be given.
‘Now it’s become so much more than a Cut-A-Thon,? she said. ‘It’s an event we hold near and dear to our hearts.?
‘The event keeps getting bigger every year and we make sure there is something for everyone in the family,? added Lori Brewer, a stylist at Glitz.
Barnett started the Cut-A-Thon concept 18 years ago in Clarkston, when a young client she knew well, Lake Orion’s Mike Quinn was diagnosed with leukemia.
The concept resumed six years ago after the Glitz staff was deeply touched by a Make-A-Wish makeover request from a girl named Stephanie.
‘It’s a very emotional, yet very positive day,? Barnett said.
