The Lake Orion Village Council likely met their new manager on Saturday. Now they just have to figure out which one of the five candidates they interviewed is the one.
The council met with each of the candidates for about 45 minutes, with some members of the public observing.
A decision on the new manager is expected to come as early as Monday’s regular council meeting. A permanent manager must be in place by March 15, but a background check and contract agreement are just some of the items that must happen after the selection.
The interviews began at 8:30 a.m. and included Kevin Mackey, the current city manager in Vassar, MI; Tori D. Kelly, the current city manager in Standish, MI; Paul Zelenak, current director of community development in Garden City and former village manager in Ortonville; Patrick Burelle, current city administrator in Aledo, Illinois, and former village manager in Lyons, Illinois; and Jeffrey Mirate, former village administrator in Mazomanie, Wisconsin.
The issue is not on the current agenda for Monday night, but council members announced their intentions to include a discussion and possible decision.
The five candidates will likely be identified by their numbers on Monday, which corresponds to the order (out of 41 applicants) that their resumes were received:
Mackey (#7), Kelly (#34), Zelenak (#16), Burelle (#7) and Mirate (#5).
The council thanked all of the candidates for traveling to do the interviews and many council members said their decision will not be easy.
