Clarkston kickers claimed their second consecutive district championship with a 1-0 win over Bloomfield Hills last Thursday.
“It was a nice evening,” said Boys Varsity Soccer Head Coach Ian Jones. “Hopefully we can keep going and go a little bit farther this year than last year – fingers crossed.”
Sophomore Dylan Walker scored the lone goal seven minutes into the game with an assist from senior Owen Dollins to win the District 15 title at Waterford Kettering.
“We scored early, almost too early to some degree because you get into that mindset of being in the lead and sit back a little bit,” said Jones.

Bloomfield Hills put a few shots on the Wolves’ net in the first half. With less than four minutes left in the first half, they tried again and junior goalie Brendan Willis was positioned himself in the perfect position to swoop up the ball to stop the goal.
“They had a couple of good chances,” said Jones. “The last 20 minutes, we basically controlled it. We kept the ball in their half. It’s difficult because they are playing for their lives, and you just have to keep playing, keep playing. They are going to get an extra 20 percent from everyone playing because they don’t want it to be there last game.”
He noted freshman Richie Ludwig and sophomore Jacob Murray had a good game.
” Richie was phenomenal. He was the main man yesterday. He seemed to be everywhere,” Jones said. “He is only a freshman, but he was just so calm and composed. He sees what he can do with defend, attack, pass. Jacob as well, he is just so energetic. He is like an Energizer Bunny for us. He just pops up and wins the ball.”
The Wolves advanced to the district finals with a 1-0 win over Walled Lake Northern on Oct. 15. Dollins scored the lone goal in the second half with an assist from senior Ethan Wise.
“We missed a lot of chances, but we were in control,” Jones said. “In the second half, WLN got a couple of chances in the beginning. Then, we scored there was no way they were going to score twice.”
The Wolves (13-3-2) played Detroit Catholic Central in the regional semifinals on Tuesday. The last time they played each other it ended with a 1-1 draw.
“Hopefully we will have a good game against DCC,” said Jones. “It was a pretty even game.”
He added the region is strong and there will be no easy games.
“We will step up against who we are playing,”said Jones. “We will have to improve ourselves.”
Detroit Catholic Central moves on to the MHSAA Division 1 Boys Soccer Regional 4 final on Saturday after a 2-1 win over Clarkston. The regional final is at West Bloomfield High School, 12 p.m. The winner moves on to the semifinals at Holt on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
