The Lady Wolves opened the season against a tough opponent last Thursday as they lost to Rochester Adams, 137-49.
“Adams is tough, we knew that going into it,” said Amber Miller, head coach for Clarkston Girls Swim & Dive team. “We have a very young team. It was great to see where they are at and how they have reacted to training so far.”
Highlights from the night included freshman Haley VanBuskirk with the first state cut for the season with her first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:25.42.
Caroline Hughes also finished in first place in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:01.29; and Kate Rogowski finished in first in the 50-yard freestyle, 26.13.
“We some really great swims,” said Miller. “Overall we are happy with where they are at and looking forward to building onto the talent.”
For relays, Hughes, Rogowski, VanBuskirk and Betsey Walkowiak finished in second place in the 200-yard medley relay, 1:54.95; 200-yard freestyle relay, Walkowiak, Rogowski, Lizzy Craig, Rachel Kociba, third, 1:47.87; 400-yard freestyle relay, Hughes, VanBuskirk, Kociba, Stuligross, fourth; and Rhys Jahn, Emily Taverna, Faith Schmeling, Samantha Chambers, fifth, 5:02.39.

“Adams swam a great line up against us,” Miller added. “They didn’t take it easy on us and that was something I appreciated. Our swimmers see where they are at and say this is my opportunity every time working harder and achieving the personal bests every time.”
For 1-meter diving, Lexi Fiori led with a fourth place finish with 115.65 points. Brianna Hayes finished in fifth 114.70 and Brianna Polick finished in sixth, 101.85.
“Our divers have done a phenomenal job so far this year,” said Miller. “They did a great job on their dives yesterday. It’s great to see their hard work is already paying off.”
They head to Rochester on Thursday and back home when they host North Farmington, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m.
