Dog Daze to raise funds for K-9 unit

Ever wondered what it’s like to be a deputy for the sheriff’s K-9 unit or wanted to learn more about how to keep your dog healthy?
Then don’t miss Dog Daze at Oxford Farm & Garden (81 N. Washington) on Saturday, June 7, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
In a time when everyone has been cutting back their budgets, it’s unfortunate that certain crime-fighting units also have to make those cuts.
The Dog Daze fund-raiser will help the OCSD K-9 unit gain the necessary equipment needed for the dogs and the trainers.
While at the event, you’ll get to experience the dogs in action ? sniffing for illegal drugs, attacking the ‘bad guys? and searching for missing persons.
Also on hand will be representatives from pet supply and food stores, like Natural Choice, to show you how to keep your dog healthy.
For us humans, Buffalo Wild Wings in Lake Orion will have yummy snacks to nibble on.
Mary Jo Patel, one of the coordinators of Dog Daze, is a dog trainer and behaviorist with Custom Dog Training in Metamora who has worked one-on-one with OCSD deputies and their canines.
‘It’s just amazing how quickly the learning takes place in just a few weeks,? she said.
Patel said she’s afraid to think of what might happen once the K-9 unit’s budget really gets ‘cut down to the bone.?
‘When we start seeing these things go, we’re gonna start seeing problems,? she said.
If you’re unable to attend the event but would like to contribute to the Police K-9 Fund, contact Mary Jo Patel at CustomDogT@aol.com or by calling (248) 505-1978.
