Downtown wedding called a complete success

The classic wedding march down the aisle had a bit of a twist last Saturday at Children’s Park.
Lake Orion natives Ashley Perkey and Matthew Schweitzer returned from their current residence in Florida for a wedding at the park’s gazebo in front of family and friends.
‘It was wonderful,? said Sally Perkey, the mom of the bride. ‘You couldn’t ask for more. They both said, ‘I can’t believe people don’t get married here more often.??
The wedding party walked across the creek to the gazebo. Both the bridge and gazebo railings were decorated by flowers donated by Jacobsen’s Flowers.
Elements donated candles holders for the unity candle while Little Monsters and Flint Street Gallery created a custom sketch of the gazebo for a special keepsake.
The Downtown Development Authority offered a special gift basket while HealthFirst’s bus served as the wedding party’s limo.
‘The community really stepped up,? Sally Perkey said of the donations, also thanking the village for painting the gazebo prior to the wedding.
‘I think downtown is a great place for a wedding,? said DDA Director Lois Golden, noting the historic buildings and park with a creek provide an unrivaled ambiance.
The ceremony was performed by Ashley’s former cheerleading coach and ordained Minister Nancy DeAvila. A reception followed in Berkley.
Sally said that Ashley’s brother, Anthony, who is a marine serving in Iraq, was in everyone’s hearts.
Jennifer Perkey served as Maid of Honor, while Scott Hasman was the Best Man, and the sun came out just minutes before the ceremony began.
‘We couldn’t ask for a better day for it,? she said.
