Independence Township Board voted unanimously, March 17, to empower the township supervisor and fire chief to suspend or terminate any township activity, close any building, enter into any contract or expenditure directly related or needed for purposes of an emergency action, should Independence Township declare a state of emergency.
Funds spent during the emergency would be eligible for reimbursement from the state or federal government, said township counsel Dan Kelly.
The resolution is for a 60-day period, which can be extended, but is retroactively effective to the governor’s state-of-emergency statement on March 13. The resolution would expire on May 19.
