New Year’s Eve wasn’t a happy occasion for an Addison Township man. The 41-year-old ended up in the hospital after being seriously hurt by exploding fireworks close to 10 p.m. on Dec. 3.
The incident took place on Park Island.
According to Lake Orion Police Lieutenant Harold Rossman, officers were dispatched to a home where the man was visiting friends.
Rossman said the man was attempting to ignite illegal fireworks when it exploded. He suffered numerous facial burns.
Orion Township’s Emergency Service arrived on the scene and quickly determined the seriousness of the injuries. The man was taken by ambulance to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital and later taken to the University of Michigan’s Burn Center.
According to Rossman, as of the end of last week, the man was in stable condition and improving. The incident is still in the investigative stage.
