A 69-year-old Oxford man was pronounced dead at the scene following a devastating three-vehicle crash Tuesday morning at the intersection of M-24 and Drahner Rd.
The victim was identified as Theodore Paul Turczyn.
According to Oakland County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Willyard, a 75-year-old Oxford woman, driving a 2014 Lincoln, was headed north in the right lane on M-24 after picking up her husband from the hospital.
‘She told me she passed out (while driving),? the deputy said.
The Lincoln ‘swideswiped? a northbound Ford Focus in the left lane, ‘kept going,? then crossed over into the southbound lanes, according to Willyard. The Focus was driven by a 65-year-old Clarkston woman.
Traveling in the southbound left lane were a 1995 Jaguar, driven by Turczyn, and a minivan, driven by a 17-year-old Oxford woman.
‘The Lincoln came out of nowhere, according to (another driver), and hit the Jaguar head-on,? Willyard said. ‘The Jaguar was in front of the minivan. The Lincoln and the Jaguar hit head-on and minivan (driver) didn’t have time to react and she hit him, too.?
Oxford firefighters transported the driver of the Lincoln to Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak and her 80-year-old husband to McLaren Oakland in Pontiac.
‘The driver has a broken ankle and the passenger has a broken leg and a broken collar bone, and maybe some other injuries,? Willyard said.
The teenager driving the minivan was taken to St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac. ‘She complained that her foot hurt and her back hurt,? Willyard said. ‘She was taken to the hospital because of her age and for safety reasons.?
The crash is under investigation.
‘I don’t think alcohol is a factor,? Willyard noted.
